April 29 Football High Holy DayIt's draft day! that means the man of the house will be glued to ESPN all day today and most of the day tomorrow. I have a full day planned myself.... it's beautiful outside, I'll probably sit on the deck with a tall glass of something or other and see what sort of trouble our girl Stephanie Plum has gotten herself into lately, it's been awhile since I checked in with her...or I may fire up the grill and see if I can tempt the football addict with a few mouthwatering aromas...I think we have a pound of huge shrimp in the freezer that would be just dandy skewered and grilled.
Of course laundry and toilet cleaning will come into play at some point during the day, but I do plan to take time for a nice long nap too.
I'll keep you updated.... I know you will be standing by for breaking news.
February 05 Superbowl Sunday - Ain't Nothing Like it!I've tried to stay out of the fray over the Superbowl, but this is an experience unlike any other I've ever known. After the championship game a couple of weeks ago, I remarked that this city was nuts.... my husband warned me then that I hadn't seen anything yet... that was an understatement of phenominal magnitude.
For the past 2 weeks, the whole region has gone whacky. I went to my hairdresser and, holy cow, her whole shop was decked out in Steeler stuff, (to be fair, she has Steeler season tickets and has always been a fan, but this was over the top even for her). The local newscasts have been about 96% Steelers, 2% game day weather forecast, and 2% other news as it relates to the Steelers.... "there's five alarm fire on West Carson Street, but no Steelers were in the area...."
Almost everyone I know had some sort of Steeler party at work. Everyday turned into Black and Gold day, and yesterday was officially declared 'Steeler Saturday'.
I made a trip to the yuppie version of the local grocery store chain and found that they too had gone "Steeler"... (I go there because it's the closest to our house, not because I'm remotely yuppie)... there was Black and Gold Sushi, Brie en croute with a Steeler logo cut out on top, Steeler cupcakes (I bought some of those) Steeler subs, Steeler chips, Steeler what's it's and Steeler do dads... and.... everyone there had on Steeler garb... I didn't see one person in regular clothes... including me. Hey, I'm not immune... we're Steeler fans win or lose here in our corner of the world... but I think winning will be way more fun than losing...
Go Stillers!
